The MillionOaks Quarter Four 2022 Newsletter

In the last quarter of 2022 (Q4 2022), the Ministry of Municipality and Tourism of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Directorate of Parks Engineering, approved the allocation of land for the entire MillionOaks project on the median of the 120-meter street from Koya Street to Kirkuk Street. In Q4 2022, Rwanga Foundation, one of the project's strategic partners, financially contributed; therefore, Rwanga Foundation's donation package was recognized as Supporting Partner. ShaMaran Petroleum Corp., the project sponsor, agreed to provide financial support for the December 2022 planting season. Hasar Organization, the project's implementer stakeholder, started collecting oak seeds in the Kurdistan mountains, resulting in 10 tons of oak seeds. They then began preparing the soil, designing and drawing up plans for planting. Finally, the project team initiated the first planting season with support from volunteers and people all over the Kurdistan Region. Eventually, they planted 180,000 oaks in nine days, with an additional 70,000 to be planted by Q1 2023 and Q4 2023. Another event in Q4 2022 was developing a water recycling project jointly between Hasar and UNICEF and sponsored by ShaMaran Petroleum Corp to increase the production capacity of recycled water to 50 cubic meters per day.
